Chen WinstonCHEN, Winston Wavell Chen - Age 77, died peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Scarborough Grace Hospital.

He was born to Molly and Edward Chen, April 28, 1943, in Mount Moriah, St. Ann, Jamaica. Winston graduated from Knox College in 1963. He worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, in Christiana and Brown’s Town, and then moved to Canada in 1965.

In Toronto, he studied civil engineering at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and proudly worked in the engineering field and as a City of Toronto building inspector before retiring in 2011.

Winston was known by his family, friends and colleagues as a man of incredible integrity and generosity of spirit. He could often be found tinkering under the hood of a car, slamming down dominoes at a family picnic, and tapping his foot to a Bob Marley tune. He loved to travel, cook and take pictures — and even had a brief stint with martial arts.

But most of all, Winston loved tolaugh; his smile was infectious, and it will be missed.

Winston, aka Bibi, is survived by his mother; two daughters, Marcia and Hilary Chen (Joe Matt); two grandchildren, Emily and Alex Matt; and his former spouse, Carol Chen.

He had four brothers and five sisters: Bill (deceased), Hopie, Joy, Dorett, Ivor, Pamela, Barbara, Blossom and Tensue; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Due to current restrictions, a private service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020.

Additionally, an online gathering for all friends and family to commemorate Winston’s life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly suggest a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (for research).
