Swartz Peleg ShirleySWARTZ PELEG, Shirley (Upiter) - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley at her Toronto home on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Shirley was beloved by all who met her, a support and strong shoulder to both her family and friends.

Shirley had two long, loving marriages. She married Morris Swartz in 1954 who predeased her in 1978. In her later years she was married to Michael Peleg for over 30 years.

She was the adored mother of Beth (Mark), Joel (Paula) and Shaul (Judy) and the truly loved stepmother to her devoted daughter Kareen (Moishe).

She was the cherished Bubbie to Misha (Sam), Jonathan (Marissa), Maya, Daniel, David, Alexander, Sam, Max and Billy.

Great-Grandmother to Arya, Shiloh, and Daniel.

She is remembered by her extended family overseas Leor (Noah), Roee (Ruthie), Yahaylah (Tomer) and Carmie (Shir) and their children.

Shirley was the daughter of the late Toby and Joseph Upiter, sister to the late Irene and Louie.

Caring Aunt to Debbie and Cheryl and cherished by many friends and family.

Shirley was born in Windsor, Ontario. After many devoted years at home she worked for the United Israel Appeal in their Fundraising department until her retirement.

Her cooking was well known and appreciated. We know that her efforts in her kitchen nourished her family not just physically but emotionally as well.

Anyone who had the good fortune to taste her brisket will never forget it - she was an artist in the kitchen and a wonderful host. Her strength of character, feisty spirit, her quickness to laugh and unwavering support will never be forgotten.

Shirley had the rare gift of lifting people up without ever interfering and supporting without judgment.

Our family appreciates the care provided to Shirley by Dr. Querengesser, Dr. Myron and her caregivers especially Nellie.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021.
