Simonsen PeterSIMONSEN, Peter   - Banker, Realtor, Builder, Farmer, Father, Brother, and Friend Peter Høj Simonsen was born on a small farm near Ølgod in the western part of Jutland, Denmark, on March 22, 1937.

After living in Canada for most of his life, he passed away peacefully at age 83, in the presence of his daughter, and in the virtual presence of his son, at 4:20 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at the Warkworth Place long-term care home in Warkworth, ON.

He leaves behind his son, Karl (and partner Jen), his daughter, Katy, and her two children, Sean and Karin, all now living in the US, and was predeceased by one and survived by two former wives.

In Denmark, he is survived by his sister Birte (children Christian and Anne Kirsten), his younger brother Vagn (wife Karin and children, Mette and Morten), his youngest brother Karl (wife Edith and children, Susanne and Laila - the latter now of Abbotsford, BC), and many close cousins.

Greatly missed by his lifelong friend Jens Sonderskov of Scarborough, ON, and his good friend and neighbour David Gibson of Hastings, ON, who helped him immeasurably in his final years.

His family is very grateful for Dave's care and that of all his professional caregivers, including those at Maple View Retirement Residence and Warkworth Place.

A semi-retired farmer and well-known figure around Hastings for the past 20 years, he previously lived in Guelph, Sarnia, Toronto, Pickering, Oshawa and Ajax.

Prior to retirement, he was involved in Banking, Real Estate, and, through his construction company, the building of many hundreds of family homes in the GTA. Longtime readers of The Star may remember him as an articulate, prolific, and sometimes critical letter writer.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many.

Due to COVID-19, travel restrictions and the Canadian perma-frost, his funeral and interment will be deferred until at least the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in his name.
