La Posta GiacomoLA POSTA, Giacomo - (July 23, 1921 - April 21, 2021) -

Giacomo Benedetto La Posta was born in the charming city of Sora, situated in the centre of Ciociaria, July 23rd, 1921.

The second of four children, the son of Antonio La Posta and Marianna Mattacchione, grew up as a hard working young man working in the family business. He thrived in working the land and bringing the products to be sold to the local markets.

In his early twenties he became interested and began courting a lovely young lady of his neighbourhood. After a few years of courtship, in January of 1953, Giacomo became the husband of Rosa. A year later Giacomo and Rosa became the proud parents of a beautiful little girl, Annamaria.

In 1960 Giacomo, with great courage, took his little family and crossed the ocean to begin a new chapter of his life. With a heavy heart he left his parents, his extended family, his childhood friends and his familiar surroundings and the religious festivals, that he so much cherished, to seek a more prosperous future in the far away land of Canada.

The transatlantic crossing landed the small family in Halifax and from there; a train ride took them to their new home in snowy Montreal.

After one year Giacomo once again moved his family, this time the trip was not as long. The family moved to Toronto where Giacomo began working in construction and Rosa as a seamstress while little Annamaria was growing up into a fine beautiful young lady.

In 1986, after having worked for twenty six years; enduring the heat and cold of Canada Giacomo took a well deserved retirement. He retired to spend six months a year in Sora. There he enjoyed the fruits of his labour by living, enjoying and recapturing memories of his youth. The yearly trips to Sora lasted until the summer of 2018. These trips for Giacomo were an enjoyable return to the past. His most memorable trip was in 2011 where, surrounded by his immediate family and all the extended family he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Giacomo was a very religious man who lived an intense life. He cherished his family and found great joy in being surrounded by his wife Rosa, his daughter Annamaria with her husband Joe and the grandchildren Ariana and Luca.

Giacomo was truly delighted when his grandchildren first graduated from university and then married. He was happy to witness Ariana’s marriage to Jon and Luca’s marriage to Lily. He was overjoyed to see the arrival of seven great-grandchildren: Frederic, Remy and Mattea Markic and Joseph, Leonardo, Julia and Alessandro Abbruscato.

Giacomo is predeceased by his three siblings. He leaves behind his wife Rosa, daughter Annamaria (Joe), grandchildren Ariana (Jonathan), Luca (Lilian), seven great grandchildren and extended family in Montreal and Italy.

Giacomo Benedetto La Posta lived a full life and will always be remembered as a gentle, kind and loving man by all who had the good fortune to have met him.

A private funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 28th. Arrangements entrusted with Scott funeral home, Mississauga chapel.
