Mahabir NerrillMAHABIR, Nerrill Chase (nee Grant) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving and caring mother, Nerrill Chase Mahabir (nee Grant) who passed away peacefully at home in Newmarket, Ontario on Friday, May 28th, 2021.

Devoted wife of the late Dr. Jersley Mahabir (2006); loving Mother to Joanne (Robert Railton), Sharon (Gregg Stewardson) and Lorraine (Stephen Bell). Cherished Nana to her five grandchildren: Olivia, Maximillian, Brooke, Grant and Chloe.

Dear sister to Joy, Elaine (Ken Moulton), Betty, Dot, Tony, Gary Mark (Joan) and the late Daphne.

Lovingly remembered by the entire Grant, Mahabir, Railton, Bell and Stewardson families, her many nieces and nephews and our dear family member Sham.

She was educated at Wolmer’s Private Girls School and The University of London (Kingston). She furthered her education at the University of Alberta, University of Waterloo and York University. An exemplary student, athlete and accomplished pianist, Nerrill always strived for excellence. This was the standard that she passed along to her children and grandchildren. Her love of gardening, cooking and care-giving was reflected in her everyday life and in her home where everyone was welcome.

“Mrs. Mahabir” was an extraordinary teacher and a favourite to many throughout her 35 years as an educator. She spent most of her teaching career at Stephen Leacock Collegiate in Scarborough, Ontario where she inspired so many students to follow their dreams. As a scientist, she was curious, diligent and analytical. As a human being, she touched numerous hearts and souls and made an indelible impact on those around her. Her gifts were her inner strength, her ability to listen and her desire to learn. Her kindness and compassion fostered a genuine interest in the well-being of others. She made everyone realize their self-worth and made us all feel as though we were the most important person to her.

The strength and resilience she showed over the past year was unparalleled. She fought until the very end. There will never be another Nerrill but her legacy will remain in our hearts forever.

Mom/Nana/Nen we love you. You will live on in all of us in ways that you will never truly know. You were the rock that provided us with unconditional love. We miss you.

We would like to thank her caregivers Nathalie, Kristine, Lori Jane and Rose Ann; PSWs Marianne and Lily; Nurse Ellie; Dr. So, Dr. Kopylenko, Dr. Ng, Dr. Vicus and the supporting staff at the LHIN, Southlake Regional Hospital and Sunnybrook Hospital. Your dedication and love for our mother will never be forgotten.

Arrangements entrusted with Thompson funeral home, Aurora. A Livestream Funeral Service for Nerrill will be held Wednesday, June 9th at 1:30 PM. Interment to follow at Aurora Cemetery.

Contributions in Nerrill's memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Arthritis Society.
