CHEUNG, Dr. Harry Tsun-Sung - 1928 - 2021 Husband, father, scientist, professor, Harry T.S. Cheung, passed peacefully on June 11, 2021, with his loving wife, Lillian, and sons, Harrison and Leslie, and daughter-in-law, Laurie, at his side.
Born in Hong Kong, Harry was the first graduate from the University of Hong Kong to earn a Commonwealth Scholarship which took him and his new bride to the University of Glasgow where he earned his PhD in Marine Biology.
At the University of Miami, he became a renowned researcher in the study of Florida stone crabs.
He then moved his young family to Canada where he held positions at Trent and McMaster Universities.
In Toronto, he remained active in retirement.
His poetry was published in the Kwangtung Culture Quarterly and the Canadian Chinese press.
In 2010, he published a collection of original poems. He volunteered his calligraphy skills at Mount Sinai Hospital for Chinese New Years fundraisers.
A lifelong practitioner of Ng Style Tai Chi under tutelage from Master Cheng Wing Kwong, he taught Tai Chi at the Burlington Chinese Community Centre. Pre- pandemic, he and Lillian enjoyed the latest movies.
Other lifelong passions included Chinese and Western chess, History, Literature, Chinese astrology.
Our Ba was a renaissance man and scholar with a big heart, a gentle soul, and the kindest of smiles.
