Bell NormanBELL, Norman Joseph  -

September 3, 1932 – December 12, 2023

Norman Bell passed away after a short illness, forever cherished and surrounded by his loving family.

He left the world a better place through his kindness, generosity, compassion, and appreciation for everyone he met.

Norman was born in Toronto and spent his childhood years in Glasgow, birthplace of parents, Annie Shields and William Bell. When he was just four years old, he was evacuated to the Scottish countryside during World War II.

The traumatic impact of this early separation impressed him with the value of family, which came first - always.

During 68 years of marriage, Norman treasured his wife and best friend, Margaret; their 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren: Rosemary - Kevin, Qianna; Jeanette - Stephen; Suzanne - Cecil, Alyssa (Graham), Andrew (Nicole). Norman enjoyed a corporate career in financial leadership for many years, in a variety of industries. He was generous with his business expertise, volunteering with several charities, including St. Clare Inn.

In particular, his work with St. Bonaventure's Parish and the Franciscans was close to his heart. Never one to sit still, Norman completed a university degree in his 40s, while working full-time and supporting his family.

He was passionate about travelling, theatre, music, poetry, and history, and enjoyed spirited political discussions over a single-malt scotch.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care Norman received from the PSWs at SE Health, and from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, including palliative care.

If you wish, you may continue Norman's legacy with a gift to The Salvation Army, or a kind gesture to someone in need.
