KUKLA, André Kukla - Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Psychology at University of Toronto, died peacefully in Toronto, at Castleview- Wychwood Towers Long Term Care Home, on December 14, 2023.
Born in Gilly, Belgium, on January 18, 1942, to Max and Lily (neé Merkel) Hofstadter, Kukla survived the Holocaust as a young Jewish child, immigrating to the United States in the 1950s.
He received degrees from UCLA in physics, mathematics, philosophy and psychology, and had taught at the University of Toronto since 1970.
André was a prolific academic and popular author. He is survived by his adoring wife of 56 years, Kaila Kukla; his children, Rabbi Elliot Kukla (Abigail Weintraub) and Dr. Quill Kukla (Daniel Steinberg); his brother, Daniel Kukla (Joan Kukla); and his grandchildren, Eli Kukla- Manning and Moss Leo Kukla.
In recognition of André Kukla's experiences as a child displaced by war, his family suggests donations in his memory to Save the Children (www.savethechildren.ca).
