Munro RobertMUNRO, Robert Cauldwell  -

January 31, 1932 - February 15, 2024

Robert Cauldwell Munro, 92, of Westhills and recently Ventura, CA, passed away February 15, 2024.

Born in Montréal, Canada on January 31, 1932 and raised in Toronto, Bob was the only son of the late William Cauldwell Munro and Margaret Woods Munro McTaggart.

The first years of Bob's career were as a mine geologist in central Africa for Canadian Johns-Manville Co. Ltd. While returning to Canada from Zimbabwe in 1959, he stopped in London to propose to Judy, who was teaching there. They married in October of that year in Montréal and subsequent projects took them to Newfoundland, California, and back to Québec, where Bob was appointed Chief Geologist, overseeing projects in North America, Europe and Asia.

In 1967 they returned to California, when Bob formed a new mineral exploration department at Los Angeles-based US Borax Corporation (acquired shortly thereafter by the Rio Tinto Company of London).

In 1981 he was elected Vice President of Exploration for the company. He retired in 1997.

Bob was a 50-year veteran of the Mining Industry and a 30-year member of the Jonathan Club. He was a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.

He was preceded in death by his beloved Judy and is survived by their three children, John Munro, Margaret Munro Lyons, and Hilary Munro McLeod; sons-in-law, Jefferson Lyons and Alan McLeod; and adored granddaughters, Amelia and Evelyn McLeod.

He was uncle to Gillian and Andrew MacNaughton, their partners, Diane Frey and Julie MacNaughton, and was the delighted great-uncle of August MacNaughton.

A memorial service and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 5700 Rudnick Avenue, Woodland Hills, CA 91367. A reception in the church hall will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Valley Food Pantry. (818) 346-5554. https://www.westvalley foodpantry.org.
