WEIR, Hugh "Val"  - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Hugh "Val" Weir, son of the late Veronica and Hugh Weir and cherished husband of Patricia on October 17, 2017 at St. Michael's Hospital.

Val was hired by the Toronto Fire Department on July 12, 1963 where he was assigned to Pumper 1 at Adelaide Street.

He would later work out of Stations 26, 30 and 24 where he was promoted to Captain in 1990. He remained at Station 22 in the Upper Beach for the remainder of his career. He retired on April 7, 1996 after almost 33 years of dedicated and loyal service to the City of Toronto.

He was predeceased by his loving wife and mother of his children, Donna (nee Sharpe) Weir. He was the caring father of his daughters, Marla (Pierre) Friebe, Shannon (Steve) Torrance and sons Chris and Matt. He will be dearly remembered by his grandchildren Alexander and Benjamin Friebe; Jackson, Sawyer, Declan and Sloane Torrance. His precious grandson, Brennan Friebe, predeceased him in January of this year.

He is also survived by his sister Joan McCullaugh, brothers John, Joseph and Daniel and several nieces and nephews. He will forever be thought of with love and gratitude by Patricia's family whom he embraced as his own: Joe Brean (Jane), Anna Brean (Stephen Murray) and Tess Peckover (Dave). He was Grampa Val to Esme, Miranda, James and Winnie. He was predeceased by his sister Marie Martin and brother Paul.

A gathering to honour his life will be held at the Balmy Beach Club on Tuesday, October 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made to Caritas School of Life.
