Nadeau Mary JoNADEAU, Mary-Jo   - 1965 - 2021  With great sadness, we announce the passing of Mary-Jo Nadeau after a long illness on January 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

Mary-Jo was born in Ottawa on January 16, 1965 but spent her childhood in Yellowknife and Sault Ste Marie before moving to London and settling in Toronto.

She attended Western prior to graduate studies at York University where she received her PhD in Sociology in 2005.

A respected scholar and teacher at several Ontario universities, Mary-Jo was also a fierce social justice activist and union organizer.

She was dedicated to anti-racist and anti-colonial struggles.

In recent years, she worked with several groups and campaigns building global Palestinian solidarity.

Her tireless organizing efforts have been recognized with many tributes from fellow activists.

Mary-Jo is survived by her partner Steven Tufts, her parents John (Jack) and Constance (Connie) Nadeau and her siblings Dawn (Ken Cameron), Jack (Lynn), Jennifer (Rick Fernback) and Patrick.

She will also be greatly missed by her nieces (Jaclyn, Quinn) and nephews (James, Matthew, Nicholas, Tyler, Sutton). In accordance with Mary-Jo's wishes, a celebration will be held after COVID-19 is no longer a public health risk.

Donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and the Groundswell Community Justice Trust Fund.
