BECKLEY, Elsie Mildred "Jean" - Jean passed away peacefully on April 26, 2021, in her 92nd year.
Fiercely independent and adventurous, Jean left home at the tender age of 17 to teach in a one room schoolhouse in Blue Mountain.
She would later settle in Toronto, where she would become a beloved Home Economics teacher until her retirement in 1985.
Jean was devoted to her Church, her precious friends, and her cherished family.
Her crafting room was legendary: there she would plot and sew many family heirlooms, including the fabled series of homemade books.
She will always be remembered for her sweet nature, generous spirit, infinite creativity and of course her layered Jell-O and Ambrosia salads. Jean was predeceased by her parents Reverend Christopher Beckley and Ellen, and her brothers Stephen (Marie), Robert (Florence) and Donald (Helen).
She will be sadly missed by her niece Jane.
Donations can be made in her name at Weston Presbyterian Church at 11 Cross Street, York, Ontario, M9N 2B8.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
