Kowaliw AndreasKOWALIW, Andreas Johannes - Passed away on May 29, 2021.

He was born on June 8, 1945 in Klosterneuburg, a suburb of Vienna, Austria – the third son of Ivan Kowaliw and Oksana Yulia (Domanyk) Kowaliw.

Andreas emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1948 with his parents and brothers Ihor and Orest.

Andriy explored life through music, mathematics, sports and a dash of joie-de-vivre.

His 34 ft sailboat was his passion, he raced in tournaments and sailed the East Coast to the Bahamas.  He was also an accomplished cellist.

Andriy had a Master of Mathematics degree which led him to his professional career in information technology.  He was at the vanguard of computer programming in Kitchener-Waterloo in the 1960s.  His successful career was highlighted by many solutions including the Y2K resolution for Canada’s major banks.

To say he burned the candle from both ends would be an understatement.  His candle of life was immolated by him in its entirety.  He was talented, focused and successful in many projects that tickled his inspiration.

His dedication to family was vast. He was godfather to his brothers’ and friends’ children who all loved him.

He leaves in sorrow his brother Ihor (Marijka), Orest (Katharyne) and nieces and nephews Myron (Mary Jane), Larissa, Taras (Stefanie), Stefan, Oksana, Bohdan and their families. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all those whose lives he touched.

Due to the current Covid - 19 restrictions in Toronto that allow a maximum number of guests to attend a funeral, the service details will be kept private and attendance will be by invite-only.

The family thanks you for your support and understanding during this challenging time.
