Hallgren GaryHALLGREN, Gary - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gary on Saturday October 2, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

Gary is now reunited with his dear parents Signe and Ivar, his brother Bera, father-in-law Nick and nephew Regan.

Gary was the loving husband of Marylin and devoted father of Sarah (Kyle Plaggemeier). He was the admired brother of Britt (Robin Forsnor) and Bera Hallgren (predeceased)(Anita).

Gary was a remarkable man with many passions and interests. Most of all, he adored his family here in Canada and Sweden. He was always supportive of Marylin and her various organizations and never gave her a hard time about time away for meetings. Gary was a doting father and made time to share a bedtime prayer with Sarah every night as she was growing up.

He was very proud of his Swedish heritage and was a long-time member of the Swedish Engineering Society. He never forgot his roots and was happy to have Sarah attend Swedish school each Saturday when she was a child. Gary loved to tell stories, often amending them by saying “To make a long story short”, but never actually was able to do exactly that. A trait that we will now miss tremendously.

Gary had a keen interest in old cars, often fixing and rebuilding his own vehicles to keep them going well past when they should have been. He could fix anything with a motor or anything else that broke or needed adjustment. He had a real connection with trains. An interest passed down to him at an early age, as his father worked for the Swedish Railway.

Gary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered with a smile by all his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all their extended family and friends who have been so supportive over the past few months. Your support and well wishes have kept us strong.

A special thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Brampton Civic Hospital who cared for Gary. They were truly amazing and deserve high praise.

In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Gary to “Canadian Central America Relief Effort (CCAMRE) or Loving Arms Charitable Corp. would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements and livestream service details are entrusted with Scott funeral home, Brampton. Private Cremation has taken place.

In light of the current global pandemic with the present restrictions placed on group gatherings by the government, attendance at the funeral home has been restricted. As a result, the visitation and funeral service will be by reservation only. Please contact Sarah or Marylin if you wish to attend.
