HERGEL, John Francis - Peacefully in his sleep, John Francis Hergel, 91, lost his courageous battle with cancer on October 6, 2021.
John was an incredibly loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was a self-made man who enjoyed being around and engaging people. It is no wonder that early in his career, he chose retail self-employment by operating Delroy Shoes Ltd. (Etobicoke).
John was a gentle, compassionate and above all, a good and considerate man who often put others and their needs above his own. Woodworking, cabinetry, cooking, classic movies and later in life, reading were John's favorite pastimes.
Survived by his loving wife Anne Marie Alice Hergel (nee Marusyk), his sister Margaret Kay, his grateful children, James Hergel, Jeffrey (Maryka) Hergel and Louise (David) Joiner as well as his cherished grandchildren Graham, Liam and Ethan Joiner and Mayva and Sarah Hergel.
Preceded by his father Ludwig Hergel and mother Mary Hergel (nee Semon), his brothers Michael and Robert Hergel and his dear son Richard Hergel.
Arrangements are entrusted with Ridley Funeral Home in Etobicoke.
The family extends their heart-felt appreciation and thanks to all of those who supported and cared for John during his illness.
