SPERO, John Bowman Spero

Entered into rest after a long struggle with Parkinson’s, with Barbara by his side, at the St. Lawrence Lodge on Saturday June 13th, 2026. John Spero of Brockville and formerly of Ottawa, aged 83 years. Loving husband of Barbara Stinson. Dear son of the late William and Thelma (Phillips) Spero; and brother of late Steven Spero. Also missed by in-laws David, Michael (Wendy) and John (Miju) Stinson, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Father of Mark, Mike and Jeff and stepfather of Edward Shea.

John Bowman Spero was a math teacher at several Ottawa high schools. He will be remembered for his love of sports, including, playing old timer’s hockey with the β€œNepean Golden Blades” and the β€œRusty Blades”, refereed basketball for over 30 years, played fastball and slow pitch every summer, an excellent pool player, his love of playing cards especially euchre and duplicate bridge, and his love of golf, continuing to play till he was hospitalized a couple of years ago.

A private family graveside service will take place at the Hampton Union Cemetery, Hampton, Ontario. A Celebration of John’s life will be held in the Edgewood Room at the Executive, 55 Water Street East, Brockville on Friday July 24th, 2026 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.Β In memory of John, donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated by the family.
