BEHNKE, Patricia Anne Behnke

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Anne McReavy Behnke.

Patricia (the late Earl) is survived by her son David , daughter-in-law Liza, loving grandsons Magnus and Murdoch, daughters Bernadette and Carol Anne, grandchildren Ashlee and Jean-Paul and great-grandchildren Coltin and Bennett. She will especially missed by her brother Art (Anita) and cousins Richard, Barb (Bob), Danny and Randy (Susan), as well as her brother Michael (Cheryl). She is predeceased by her sister Noreen and brother Frank. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention how much she loved her ‘granddogs’ Duke and Indy.

Born in Hamilton, Pat moved to Blind River in the late 1960’s, where she met and married Earl Behnke, raising their three children in their house on the river. Pat always enjoyed her backyard, even when it was full of roosters, ducks and whatever creatures her family brought home, but her garden was her pride and joy. Neighbours and friends were often recipients of a wide variety of her plentiful vegetables throughout the years, as well as stories of how the beautiful sunflowers just appeared in the garden each season.

While summers kept her busy with her grass and plants, the winters seemed to delight Pat just as much, with her tales to her family of how much snow was shovelled that day, complete with pictures of the frozen river and a countdown to Christmas (her favourite holiday). Pat loved holiday get togethers with her family and friends, and was always sure to bring her famous cookies along.

Throughout her life she took care of many people, especially in their later years, and was always there to help with whatever was needed. In the past years she herself received much support from her own neighbours and friends, and a huge thank you goes to Marcel and Dick & Janet, as well as Barb and Bob for their love and care. Most importantly, the family would like to thank Rose for her tireless efforts in helping Pat, particularly over the past year.
Pat had a most wonderful last chapter of life. Despite the difficulties she experienced, she faced everything with hope and a smile, and ended her story on a high note. We will miss you dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Blind River on Sunday, July 26 from 1pm to 5 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 27 Hawkins St, Blind River.
