Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on August 28th, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Miriam Louise MacKinnon made the courageous move to Ontario at the young age of 19 or 20, travelling with friends to begin a new chapter in her life. She spent most of her years in the Mississauga area, where she built a fulfilling life and took great pride in her career in administration within the sales industries, including wine and tires. Miriam was a dedicated and capable woman who took great pride in her work and the independence it afforded her.
Miriam was a woman of strong faith, and her faith was a guiding presence throughout her life. She was a proud and devoted member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, where she found community, friendship, and spiritual connection.
Beloved daughter of the late Mary and Hector McKinnon. Dear sister of the late Owen and Joseph Roland. Dear aunt of Barbara Spencer (Stephen). Great-aunt of Jenna Baskey (Rob) and Danny Spencer (Kaley). Proud great-great-aunt of Charlotte Spencer, Cambria, and Louden.
Miriam will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and many friends in both Ontario and Nova Scotia. She will be remembered for the life she built far from her Nova Scotia roots, the dedication she brought to her career, her steadfast faith, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
A special Thank-You to Dr. Go and the Palliative Care Team for their loving dedication.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 1100 Mary Street North, Oshawa on Thursday September 3, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Miriam to St. Joseph the Worker Parish would be appreciated by the family.
