Alda Staples (Blaker)

October 28, 1948 – September 9, 2026

Memorial candle

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alda Staples (Blaker) on Wednesday September 9th, 2026, peacefully and surrounded by her family, at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice in her 78th year. Beloved wife of John Robert “Bob” Staples. Cherished mother to Cindy Marriott (Stacey), Jim Murray (Leslie) and step-mother to Darren Staples and Dawn Staples (Todd). Loving grandmother to Ethan, Bowen, Dash, Devan, Logen, Sheridan (Nick) and great-grandmother to Rhodes.

Also remembered by her siblings Audrey Winn, Murray and predeceased by Aubrey (Jane), Brian and Melville (Linda). Also predeceased by her parents Gordon and Olive (Lake) Blaker. Alda will be dearly missed by many extended family members and friends in the community.

Alda was born and raised in Northumberland. After retiring from Kraft Foods, Alda was able to spend time doing many of her favourite things including travelling, fishing, sewing, looking after the grandkids and ‘finishing’ woodworking projects with Bob. Alda was always an active member of the YMCA Northumberland, especially enjoying the Aquafit classes (both indoor and at the outdoor pool); she made so many dear friends at the “Y.”

Special thank you to the entire team at Ed’s House Northumberland, they provided wonderful care and support to Alda and the whole family throughout their time there.

In keeping with her wishes, a Celebration of Alda’s Life will be held on Saturday October 3rd, 2026 at the Alderville Community Centre, 8913 County Road 45, Roseneath, ON, from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Words of remembrance will take place at 1:30 pm. A private family interment will take place at Baltimore United Church Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice or the YMCA Northumberland would be appreciated by the family.
