THAJER, Dietlinde ‘Linda’,
Linda, age 86, passed away peacefully on the evening of Tuesday November 3, 2026 at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa. Linda was born on June 29, 1940 in Voitersreuth which was a small village at the time in Germany, now called Vojtanov in Czech Republic. In her early twenties, Linda and a friend immigrated to Canada for a better life with dreams of working as a hair stylist and hair model. Upon her arrival in Toronto, she began working for salons as an upcoming stylist and eventually began her modeling opportunities in and around the city. Linda embodied class, beauty and charm and always showed a strong interest in fashion and beauty trends. From being a hair model herself to competing as a stylist, she won many awards and became known for her work in and around the city.
While working and enjoying downtime in the city, Linda met the love of her life, Manfred ‘Fred’. The two met at a German club while having a dance together. From then on, they were inseparable, falling more in love which lead to their marriage in 1962. A year later, Linda and Fred welcomed their first born child, Angela and in 1972 their second child was born, Gernot ‘Gary’.
Linda and Fred worked together towards her goal of opening her own salon, Linda’s Fashion Hairstyling, in Oshawa in the 60s. She successfully ran her business developing a large, upper class clientele over the years and became known for her hair colouring and styling techniques. In 1970, she temporarily closed her salon and moved to Austria with her family. Upon returning to Canada, Linda reopened her salon in 1973 and retired in 2005.
Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and with her husband, Fred. From cooking delicious cuisines, playing a few rounds of Texas Holdem with her family, attempting the latest challenge in her German crossword puzzles to baking traditional European desserts, Linda liked to keep busy doing the things she loved. Linda also enjoyed watching many sporting events with her husband. A few of her favourites included The Toronto Maple Leafs, The Boston Bruins, Bayern München and Formula 1 races. As a committed fan, she rarely missed a game or a match. Lastly, Linda was known for her famous authentic German Christmas cookies, her beautiful, pristinely styled hair and her sweet, gentle and loving personality.
A devoted, loving wife, a proud mother and Oma, a loving great grandmother “Uhr Oma”, a genuine friend and neighbour, Linda will be remembered and missed dearly by those who knew her.
We thank each and everyone for their condolences and their support during this time
