It is with profound sadness that the family of Bertrand Aldola Henry Joseph Brunet (Bert) announces his sudden passing on January 17, 2025, at the age of 67 in Kirkland Lake. Bert was a loving partner, father, and friend whose memory will be cherished by his family and everyone who knew him.

1934 - January 10, 2025

June Ardell Merhar passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2025, at the age of 90. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend to many. June will be deeply missed.

Aline Zubernick

1944 – 2024

Aline Lucienne Marie Zubernick (née Gelinas), age 80, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, while enjoying a dream vacation with her daughter and son-in-law. Born on April 2, 1944, in Holtyre, Ontario, Aline was the beloved daughter of Yvonne Rheault and Armand Gelinas. She was a longtime resident of Kirkland Lake.

On December 15, 1979, Aline married Clifford Zubernick in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Known for her love of life, Aline enjoyed spending time with her beloved dog Harry, playing BINGO, and exploring her community on her scooter. Her bright smile and great sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her.

Aline was predeceased by her parents, Yvonne and Armand Gelinas; her siblings, Fernande and Cecile; and her son, Herbert Jr. Boudreau. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Boudreau and Belinda Downey (Stanley); her grandchildren, Shawn Lachapelle (Ali) and Melissa Lee (Mike); and her six great-grandchildren: Kohen, Avah, Makenzee, Kael, Teo, and Emre. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be cherished by her family and friends.

As per Aline’s last wishes, cremation has taken place. A burial will be held in Holtyre in the Spring of 2025 to honor her memory and celebrate her life with family and friends.

Jules Joseph Fournier

Jules Joseph Fournier

1929 - 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Jules Joseph Fournier, also known as Joe or Pepe, announces his peaceful passing at Teck Pioneer Residence on November 23, 2024, at the age of 95, surrounded by family.

Jules is survived by his sons Emeric (Tracy) and Roland, and his adored grandchildren Erica (Matthew), Mathew, Natasha (Jesse), Jules (Kara), and Diane (Manpreet). He was also the proud great-grandfather of Aria. Predeceased by his parents and his wife, Carmelle Fournier (Lamarche), Jules lived a full and active life.

Born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Jules traveled across Canada for work in his younger years before returning to settle in his hometown. He worked at many operational mines in the area, including the Adams Mine before his retirement. Jules was a happy, friendly, and generous man who loved to volunteer, especially during the holidays, dressing as Santa Claus to bring joy to children.

Jules was a gifted storyteller and artist, with talents in playing the spoons, harmonica, and accordion, as well as wood carving and painting. He loved the outdoors, cherishing time spent camping, fishing, hunting, and being with his family. Jules left a legacy of cherished memories and laughter that his family will hold dear forever.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Teck Pioneer Residence for over 8 years of exceptional care, the nurses, personal support workers, and Dr. Moore for their compassionate service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Teck Pioneer Residence, 145A Government Road East, Kirkland Lake, ON, P2N 3P4. In accordance with Jules' wishes, cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held in the spring.

1937 - November 26, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Turner, fondly known as Jim, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Kirkland Lake District Hospital. At 87 years old, Jim left behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Maria (Mary) Modesto Turner, who brought immense joy and companionship into his life. He was deeply cherished by his three children: Jamie Turner, Michael Turner, and Douglas Turner. Jim was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren—Meghan Gignac, Amanda Turner, Jay Turner, Shane Turner, Faith Turner, Serena Turner, and Skye Turner—and a devoted great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren: Alison Gignac, Giordanna Gignac, and Jaxon Turner.

Beginning his career at Kerr Addison Mines at the young age of 18, Jim worked tirelessly until his retirement at 56. He was also a proud member of the McGarry Fire Department, serving his community with pride and commitment for many years.

Jim’s life was forever transformed when he met Mary in Rouyn-Noranda, QC. They shared a remarkable marriage of 65 years, filled with love, companionship, and countless adventures. Together, they enjoyed fishing, hunting, and creating memories at their family cottage, a place of joy for their children and grandchildren.

Known for his kindness, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for family, Jim will always be remembered for the joyful gatherings he fostered, from evenings by the bonfire to lively dart nights and cookouts filled with laughter.

Jim will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
