AIR, Alexander (Sandy) Douglas – It is with great sadness and heartbreak that our family announces Sandy’s passing on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in his 96th year.
Sandy is survived by his brother, Fred.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence; daughter, Lucinda; his grandson, Christopher; as well as his parents, Robert and Georgina and siblings, George, Peter, Betty and John. Sandy was born on March 25, 1928 and grew up in Toronto and spent a lot of time in Muskoka with his family.
He remained a permanent fixture in Muskoka and enjoyed his time playing golf at Muskoka Lakes GC. Next to the club was the Shamrock Lodge which soon became his vacation spot of choice. Sandy loved his many dogs including “Dunnie” which he kept after the death of his good friend Joan.
His love of sports started early and his hockey career took him to many parts of the World. He was most proud of his trip to the World Championships in Oslo, Norway in 1958 where his team the “Whitby Dunlops” would take home the gold medal against Russia.
Sandy continued his close relationships with his NHL Oldtimers friends and attended the monthly luncheons regularly.
While playing hockey Sandy began his career on Bay Street as a stock broker, this career would span 65 years.
Sandy was a longtime member of the Lions Club and received many awards as a valued member.
Sandy will be missed and remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews and friends from a well lived and long life. Celebration of Life details will follow.
