Raymond Morton Atkinson passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones, on April 7, 2025.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 66 years, Joyce, his daughter Susan Sedlak, son-in-law Bob, and grandson Ben; as well as his son Peter, daughter-in-law Michelle, and grandchildren Sarah and Taylor.

Born in England in 1935, Ray migrated to Canada in 1953. He and Joyce married in Brantford, Ontario in 1959 and built a life together in Toronto. Ray enjoyed a successful 40-year career at CIBC, followed by meaningful work managing a non-profit housing development founded by his home church until his retirement at age 65. He and Joyce later built their retirement home in Bowmanville, Ontario.

A man of deep faith and community spirit, Ray served faithfully as a church warden, lay reader, and member of several church and community boards. He believed strongly that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” and lived this philosophy daily.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his wisdom, sense of humour, generosity, and zest for life. He also deeply enjoyed books, theatre, and travel. Ray touched many lives and will be profoundly missed.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 2:00 PM at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville, ON L1C 2Z8.

For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at the following link: https://youtube.com/live/H-iOVVwc3LI?feature=share.
