BROERSMA, Joyce Lauraette Broersma
April 13, 1940 - May 19, 2026She was born in Aurora, Ontario on April 13, 1940 and passed away at Haliburton Hospital on May 19, 2026.
Family always came first for Joyce. Daughter of the late Gordon and Dorothy Reaman. She was a loving wife to her husband and best friend Andy who passed away in 2024. She was cherished by her family β daughters Anne (Marcel), Jean (Steve) and Maggie (Kevin), grandchildren Tracey (Darnell), Bob, Andrea, Jesse (Tanya), Greg (Jessie), Mathew (Amanda), Tony (Lindsay), Steve (Kristi), Kimberly (Steve) and Liam (Jessie) as well has her 17 great grandchildren Owen, Danielle, Evan, Nicole, Logan, Tristan, Brooke, Rylan, Tayler, Ethan, Declan, Abby, Kennedy, Cullen, Gabriel, Caleb and Mavric. She is survived by her siblings; Doug (deceased) (Joyce), Carl (deceased) (Betty), Donna (Richard), Kathy (Frank β deceased), Shirley (Irwin), Donald (deceased) and her in-laws Harvey (Sita), Len (Marie), Winda (Peter) and Peter (Vivian) as well as many extended family members.
Joyce Lauraette Broersma first job was at United Farms in Bradford where she met Andy and when their daughters came along; she stayed home and started driving a school bus to Park Avenue Public School in Holland Landing where they lived. She also managed to drive a few taxi runs in between bus routes. During this time Joyce and Andy acted as foster parents to many children in need β they didnβt need to be blood related, they were just there for all. Camping with the Gad-a-bouts was a big part of how the family spent time together cultivating many friendships with their fellow campers. Joyce and Andy purchased Kushog Korners in March 1979 then settled in Minden in 1999. Joyce ultimately moved to Haliburton in 2020 to be closer to her beloved husband at Extendicare. Joyce was very active in the community β quilting, rug hooking, shuffleboard, cards and participating in the Senior Games at many levels around the province.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Bishop and the attentive nurses in the emergency department at Haliburton Hospital as well as the staff at both Highland Wood and the Gardens for the attentive care provided to Joyce. She was a cancer survivor.
Keeping with Joyceβs wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at the Highland Hills United Church (21 Newcastle Street, Minden, Ontario K0M 2K0) on June 13th. The church will be open for visitation at 1pm with the service at 2pm followed by a reception, light lunch and fellowship for the sharing of memories and tributes.
