Doug Cole passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, with family by his side. Husband of Mary (Calnan), father of Anthony (Mary), brother of Neena (Bill) and Wayne (Cathy), fun Poppa to Benjamin, David, and Catherine, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Arther and Harriet Cole, and his nephew John Cole.
Doug was employed as a printer at the Oshawa Times for over 40 years until it closed in 1994. He was closely involved in sports in the city, particularly baseball, golf, 10-pin bowling, and his favourite, hockey, which he played into his 80s. He was inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Gale Lumber Fastpitch Team that won the Ontario championship five straight years from 1966 through 1970. He also coached Anthony’s teams for years and was well-respected by players, parents, and the opposition for his knowledge and kindness. He was truly a gentle, giving, honourable man, who will be missed.
A special thank you to friends and family, especially his superstar wife Mary, who helped Doug as his dementia worsened in the last couple years, and to the dedicated staff of Hillsdale Terraces, where Doug resided these last four months.
