COUTO, Nelli Couto
March 11, 1966 - June 10, 2026It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, treasured daughter, and beautiful sister.
Nellie passed away surrounded by her family in the early hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Ian Anderson Hospice. She fought bravely, valiantly, and with unshakable faith for over a year. In the end, our good Lord called her home and welcomed her into everlasting life.
Nelli Couto is survived by her four daughters, Megan Pandeirada (Kris), Juliann, Bethany, and Nikkita Couto. Her mother, Maria JosΓ© Branco (predeceased by Nellieβs father, Urbano da Costa Branco). She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Robert Branco; her sister, Denise Montgomery (Steve); her nephew, Jonas; and her niece, Gracelyn.
Beyond her immediate family, she will be fondly remembered by Daniel Turner and Cohen Eisenhauer, her childhood friends, a multitude of extended family members throughout the world, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. Nellieβs beloved dog, Cooper, who brought her endless joy and companionship, will forever miss her walks and cuddles.
Nellie was an amazing woman whose love knew no limits and who was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear whenever it was needed. A whiz at math and accounting, she spent 27 years at RB&W, where she felt truly valued and formed many lasting friendships with special people along the way.
Nellie lived her life guided by her devout faith in God, was a member of the Catholic Women’s League, volunteered her time with the Girl Guides of Canada and always found ways to give to those in need (even during her own illness). In memory of her father Urbano, Nellie loved to garden and ensured she took special care of his roses. She also loved to knit, bake, read, and spend time at the beach. Her family will especially remember her affinity for Christmastime and the joy it brought her to make the holiday extra special for her family and friends; her creativity and love would shine through in her crafts, baking, and thoughtful gifts. Most importantly, Nellie took great pride in ensuring that her four daughters were raised as strong, intelligent and independent women, who will always stick together.
Nellie was fortunate to spend her final days at the Ian Anderson House, which she had chosen as her final home on Earth. The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the entire hospice team at Ian Anderson House, as the kindness, compassion, dignity, and exceptional care brought immense comfort during a difficult time and will never be forgotten.
