marilyn anne beaton

Marilyn Anne Beaton passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, on August 24, 1940, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Frederick “Ted” Hunter and Violetta (Clark) Hunter, and sister of Brenda O’Brien. She graduated from Springhill High School in 1958 and became a registered nurse after completing her training at Payzant Memorial Hospital in Windsor in 1961.

During nursing school, Marilyn met Angus Beaton. They married in Springhill on September 16, 1961, and shared nearly 65 years together before Angus died in August 2026. They moved to Toronto in 1962, where Marilyn worked in hospitals while raising their sons. The family settled in Bramalea in 1969, and that same year Marilyn began working as a correctional officer at the Vanier Centre for Women, remaining there until 1979.

Marilyn and Angus returned to Nova Scotia for retirement in 2005 and made their home at Summer Cove in Bedford. They formed close friendships there and enjoyed summer evenings overlooking the Bedford Basin. Marilyn loved travel, winter stays in South Padre Island, time with friends and, above all, her family.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Jacqueline) and Paul (Cindy); grandchildren Julie (John), Susan (Liv), Steven, Danielle (Tom) and Angela (Scott); great-grandchildren Jacob and Catherine; sister Brenda; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Angus; parents Frederick “Ted” and Violetta Hunter; and in-laws Patrick O’Brien, Theresa Shiek, Findlay Beaton, Doreen Beaton, Ambrose Beaton, Rosalia Beaton, Martin Beaton and Joan Beaton.

The family expressed gratitude to the nurses and caregivers who supported Marilyn at Shannex Parkstone. Visitation and Funeral Mass details are to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
