With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter Mitchell surrounded by the love of his family, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2026 at the age of 77 years.

Beloved husband for 54 years of Grace Mitchell (nee Lazore). Loving father of Pernell Peters (Rebecca), Delores Lazore (Regis), the late Robert Mitchell, Barbara Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell. Cherished grandfather of Jordan (Alexis), Justin (Autumn), Kanerahtiio, Koy, Alantra, Iehente, Kawennaienhne and Klae, Wil Lazore and great-grandfather of Helen, Deklen, Nyrah, Kentli, Karma, Alyana and Jenesis. Dear brother-in-law of Angus Lazore (Jackie), Joe Lazore (Lucy) and Emmy Mitchell (Brian). Peter will be greatly missed by his godchildren; Daniel Lazore, Teres Adams, Brandon Smoke, Mike Adams, Tammy Mitchell, the late Dawson George, Raymon Phillips and Leonard Lazore, by his uncle; Jake Adams, by his chosen mother; Sally Ann Adams (late Maurice), by his little medicine man; Tiron Brown, by all members of the White family and Smoke family and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is predeceased y his parents; Peter White and Christy Mitchell (nee Smoke), his twin sisters; Margaret Lazore (late Francis) and Nancy Phillips (Louis), his uncles; Mitchell White and Joseph White and by his sisters-in-law; Dorothy Lazore, Joyce Sharrow (late Lawrence) and Julia Thompson (late Mike).

Peter was a proud member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits and Iron worker and dedicated member of Local 440. He took great pride in his work and the many years he spent helping build the communities around him. Known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand, he earned the respect of his colleagues and friends alike.

Above all else, Peter cherished his family. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always making time for family gatherings, celebrations, and creating memories that will be treasured forever. His love, guidance, and unwavering support were gifts that his family will carry with them always.

A man of many interests and talents, Peter was incredibly crafty and enjoyed working with his hands. Whether he was creating, fixing, or building something, he found joy in staying busy and sharing his skills with others. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially pounding logs and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature.

In his leisure time, Peter was a faithful fan of CKON Bingo, often looking forward to the excitement and camaraderie it brought. In his younger years, he enjoyed baseball, boating, and fishing, hobbies that provided countless happy memories and stories that he loved to share.

Peter’s family will welcome loved ones and friends at the Homemaker’s Center, 1126 Rd River, Akwesasne, QC on Monday, June 8, 2026 from noon. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at the Homemaker’s Centre at 2 p.m. Followed by cremation.
