Betty Newman, a light in our lives and in the lives of all others she touched, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 24, 2025 in Windsor, Ontario. Born in 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland, Betty was the cherished wife of the late Joseph Newman (2011), to whom she was married for 58 years. Beloved mother of Ruth (John), Carol (Drew) and Paul (Carolyn). Dear grandmother to Jeffrey and Justin, Heather and Scott, and Elizabeth, Hannah, and Celeste and their partners, and great grandmother to our ones Piper, Violet and Declan. Beloved sister to Irene (late Michael), Mark (Linda). Reunited with late sister Ruth and brother Bill.
Always up for an adventure, Betty forged a new life in Canada with Joe and their young family. She made many friends along the way, working at the Sears Catalog department and volunteering in the gift shop at Windsor Regional Hospital. She enjoyed vacations with family, learning, and passing on new skills or crafts to the next generation.
Sharing her smile and love (and maybe a packet of biscuits), she treated everyone as family and maintained her spicy personality until the end. We cannot express our gratitude enough to the staff in the Poplar Unit at Huron Lodge – the kindness, care and friendship shown to our Mother over the past two years has been nothing short of phenomenal, as they helped her navigate the challenges of aging.
If you so desire, donations to Huron Lodge, Canadian Cancer Society, or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Families First, South Windsor, 3260 Dougall Ave. (519-969-5841).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 am on August 21, 2025 at the Fogolar Furlan Club, 1800 N. Service Rd. All are welcome to attend.
