It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elisabeth Schneider on October 25, 2025, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa.
Elisabeth was born in Varoslod, Hungary, an ethnic German village. After World War II, her family was expelled to East Germany, and she eventually emigrated to Oshawa, Canada, to join her fiancé Nick, who also originated from the same village.
Having earned a certificate in garment production sewing, she worked for a time as a seamstress before remaining home to raise her family.
Elisabeth was a long-time member of the German cultural society Club Loreley, and greatly enjoyed cooking, making her own clothes, travelling and spending time at the family cottage in the Kawartha Lakes region.
Elisabeth is survived by her children Nicholas (Judy) and Susan, sister Ella, sister-in-law Maria and grandchildren Andrea (Brandon) and Matthew. She is preceded in death by her husband Nick, brother Wilhelm and brother-in-law Mike.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Lakeridge Health Oshawa or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held at De Stefano Funeral Home (1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa) on Friday, October 31st at 10:00 am. There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 am followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
