Peacefully, with family by her side, at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in her 94th year. Corrie, loving wife of the late Gerrit. Beloved Mom of Elly and her husband Derek Sparnaay, Harry and his wife Martina, the late Jacob (Twin of Harry), Doug and his wife Taye, Eric and his wife Susan, and Diana and her husband Bill Jex. Proud Oma of Jan, Shawn, Cora, Aaron, Kuil, Liam, Lindsay, Brock, Madison, Seth, and Griffin. And seven Great-grandchildren, ages 15 to 1 year old.
Corrie and Gerrit arrived in Canada in the late 1950’s, with infant Elly, to begin a new life in a small cottage in Leith, Ontario. As the family expanded, they moved into a house in Owen Sound close to Harrison Park, where they stayed for 42 years. Corrie was a loving stay-at-home mom before starting a job at the Owen Sound regional hospital. Singing in the church choir, lawn bowling, ally bowling (high average) were her hobbies as well as a good game of Bridge on Saturday nights, with close friends.
She cherished her roll as the matriarch of her large family, instilling a deep sense of strong family ties and connections. Large family gatherings were always enjoyed and well attended, and will be remembered by all, as memories of togetherness.
Memorial donations to Home & Community Support Services Grey Bruce, Brightshores Health System Owen Sound Foundation or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family.
