It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christine Slattery (née Silbernagel) on April 20, 2025.
Christine, known to her family as Ina, was born in Munich, Germany, and emigrated to Canada in the early 1980s, settling first in New Brunswick and later in Ontario. With a background in forestry, she spent much of her career at Klöckner-Moeller and later worked as an independent translator of technical and medical texts.
Christine was generous to a fault and known for her hospitality—especially her famous Christmas parties, which featured hundreds of handmade German cookies. She loved her cats and wildlife, especially the raccoons who made their home beneath her deck.
Christine’s encyclopedic memory and voracious reading made her an extraordinary conversationalist. Her knowledge spanned history, music, literature, and current affairs, and she shared it in every deep and thoughtful conversation.
Christine is predeceased by her husband, Graham, and is survived by her stepmother, Brigitte; sisters Katja and Lexi; and sister-in-law, Miriam.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24th, from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Pasquale’s Trattoria, 50 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Humane Society or the Carlo Fidani Cancer Centre.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home.
