SPELAY, Iris Irene Spelay

Entered the world in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on a warm summer day, and she went to be with her Lord on the crisp autumn day of October 19, 2025, in the gentle care of David Lloyd Jones Home in Kelowna, British Columbia. In the quiet intervals between sunrises and sunsets, she lived with curiosity, persistence, and a stubbornness all her own.

She is survived by her children, Gordon (Sophia) and Cameron (Cindy Anne), and her grandchild, Sophia, who we hope will carry forward the glimmer of her spirit. Her sister Diane (Ken) Sharp also remains. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorne Spelay; her parents, George & Sophie Senkow; and her sister, Rose Massett.

Iris delighted in the small and precise: the turn of a page, the unfolding of red petals in her garden, the careful arrangement of her Barbie doll collection, the meticulous lines of her stamp collection. An avid fan of curling, she and her family would often go to watch curling; the sound of the rocks on the ice, the clack they would make as they hit, and the cheer of the crowd were all included in what she loved about the sport.  She enjoyed Sunday drives, the unhurried rituals of picnics, and the quiet strength of attending church. Her family (both human and furry) were central to her world; her cat and dog shared the home and the heart she guarded fiercely.

Memorial Donations in memory of Iris may be sent to BC SPCA.

A Memorial Service, with Father Wayne Pfliger presiding, will be held on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM (PDT), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service, a recording will be made available to view in 3-5 days.
