SUDAK, John Sudak
April 4, 1952 - December 21, 2025Surrounded by his family, in the early hours of Sunday December 21, 2025, John passed away peacefully. Survived by his wife, Eleanor, 3 daughters, Kate (Garrett), Jenny (Ryan), and Becky (Jordan). Beloved Papa to his 4 grandsons, Isaiah, Edwin, Wesley and Gabriel. Beloved older brother of Tom (Kristie), Mike (MaryAnne) and little sister, Joanne (Bill). John will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, in-laws and friends, and all who called him “Papa”. Eldest son of the late John and Mary Sudak.
John Sudak was a long-time resident of Newmarket, Ontario where he and Eleanor raised their 3 daughters. John was a natural athlete and excelled at hockey and fastball even into his 70’s. John built an impressive career working his way up from the drafting table to director of engineering in the automotive industry at many prestigious companies. He was a natural leader and manager, and took great pride in mentoring young engineers. He and Eleanor eventually retired to Wasaga Beach where he was an active member of local Old Timers’ hockey teams and the Probus club.
An avid fisherman, he bonded with many over the sport of fishing. He spread the love of fishing to his daughters, then to his grandsons who all share his passion, especially for the joys of being out on the water with loved ones, looking for the best bass spot.
John enjoyed film, art, theatre and live music and attended many local cultural events and having rich discussions with those close to him. He greatly enjoyed travelling with his wife and best friend of more than 45 years from road trips to find the best butter tart in Ontario, to international destinations such as Italy, Germany, China and Japan.
John could fix anything from cars to dishwashers to toys and seemed to have an innate understanding of how everything worked and a tool for every task (that he was always willing to share). He never gave up until things worked smoothly once again, often finding creative and resourceful solutions.
John was many things to many people, but perhaps his most important role was being a constant source of wisdom, guidance and support to everyone he loved. He would pick up the phone at any hour to talk a loved one through a crisis and was known to travel long distances in a day or after work just to have lunch with one of his daughters and talk through one of life’s challenging situations. In other words, no problem was unsolvable with his support; and the way he lived his life gave us confidence to keep going even in the most difficult times.
His family is grateful for the kindness, dignity and care he received at Collingwood general and Marine Hospital in his final hours.
John/Dad/Papa will be dearly missed; but treasured forever.
