CORBEIL WATERS, Marilyn Elizabeth (nee JOHNSTON)   - With profound sadness, we announce the death of our exceptional mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, loyal friend and fierce activist.

Marilyn was born to Grace and George Johnston in Islington, Ontario, on August 24, 1937.

She died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

Marilyn was the oldest of five siblings and a cherished big sister to her remaining brother Steve. Marilyn's place in our family was revered.

Marilyn was a woman of many talents. She felt most joy and fulfilment as a mother to Naomi, David, Michele and Emme; grandmother to Thomas, Ally, Joshua, Noah, Levi, Sydney and Paige; and great-grandmother to Bridgette, Jasper, Aiden, and Hannah; and special surrogate grandma to Lauren.

A voracious reader and lifelong educator, Marilyn taught for the North York Board of Education for over 34 years.

Marilyn is reunited in death with her infant daughter, Naomi; parents, George and Grace Johnston; siblings, Naomi Northeim, Alan Johnston, Karen Johnston; and most recently, her beloved son, David Corbeil. Her family is grateful to those who loved, cared for and brought comfort to Marilyn in her final years.

A celebration of Marilyn's life will take place on Saturday, July 9th, at 1:00 p.m. at The First Unitarian Church of Hamilton, 170 Dundurn Street S. Hamilton, Ontario, L8P 4K3, with a reception to follow. Masks are encouraged.

Donations in her honour can be made to Blooms for Africa via The Stephen Lewis Foundation, the Canadian Mental Health Foundation or an organisation that supports social justice.
