WOOD, Marlene Hacking   -

March 17, 1932 – May 21, 2023

 

Marlene Patricia Tannis Hacking Wood passed away peacefully, on May 21, 2023.

 

Born on March 17, 1932.

 

Daughter of late parents, Frank Hacking and Tannis Oliver.

 

Predeceased by husband, Frederick Hugh Wood (Rick). Predeceased by cousin, Tom Hacking, (Paula), and Carole Snider (Fred). Survived by the Wood and Hacking families including: Michael J. Hacking, Tracey Hacking (Kurt), and Ben Hacking (Kim).

 

A very good and longtime friend to Helen Shuttleworth.

 

Friend to Connie Fermo. Marlene was born in Manitoba, Canada. She spent part of her childhood in Japan and moved to Toronto, Ontario, being further educated at University of Toronto.

 

She went on to earn a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in the 50s.

 

Marlene practiced law in Toronto with one of the leading law firms at the time, Blake, Cassels and Graydon and following continued her law career in the import industry.

 

Marlene was well-travelled and was also very active in her community. She never passed up an opportunity to play bridge with her bridge friends, or swim with her group at the Angus Glen Community Centre or participate in cooking classes. She enjoyed the performing arts, and her contribution to engaging conversations was always evident. Marlene never missed the opportunity to advance others in unique learning experiences.

 

A committed member of The Canadian Federation of University Women, Markham, Ontario, and The Potpourri Club, she participated in many of their activities throughout Toronto and extended herself to ensure others were always included as well. She will be incredibly missed by her family and friends to whom she gave her utmost love and support.

 

A special thank you to the Markham Stouffville Hospital.

 

A private interment has taken place at York Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario.
