Samonas PaulSAMONAS, Paul - We are saddened to announce the passing of Paul Samonas (Panayiotis Samounakis) on Friday, May 22, 2020 in his 86th year. He died peacefully at home in the loving care of his family after a long history of heart-health issues.

He was the devoted husband of Maria Samonas (nee Charalampidis) for 60 years.

Loving father of George (Cindy), Elly McEachern (Dave) and Tasoula Masina (Steve).

Dear uncle to Mary Stamos and the Samonas clan.

The adoring grandfather of Peter, Stephanie, Danny, Maria, Matthew, Christina and Cathryn.

Born August 15, 1933 in Florina, Greece, he immigrated to Canada in 1952 to build a new life. He started his career in the food industry, married the love of his life, Maria, started a family, and retired as a restaurant owner. He is fondly remembered by his patrons as “the King of Queen Street”. He was an extraordinarily hard-working, kind, generous, humorous and charming man, and also a gifted storyteller. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan, wishing he would witness one more Stanley Cup.

He will be affectionately remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and one who treasured his time with his family and most especially his grandchildren. His warm and charismatic nature will be sincerely missed.

From his grandchildren: Je vous aime beaucoup, Papou! We love you and miss you very much!

In light of the ongoing global health crisis, a private service with the immediate family will be held, with the hopes of having a larger memorial service with extended family in the near future. We sincerely appreciate all the words of love and support from family and friends, and welcome your comforting messages online.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
