Mariani ConcettaMARIANI, Concetta - The family of Concetta Mariani sadly announce her passing on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the age of 91 years.

Concetta was the youngest child of Domenico Ruscigno and Constantina Novielli.

She lived a wonderful life of adventure, hard work, sacrifice and joy. Concetta was born in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy on December 8, 1928 on the feast day of the Immaculate Conception. She grew up in the time of the second world war and made the brave decision to leave her homeland and family behind in 1951 for the promise of a new life in Canada at the age of 23.

One year later, she married our father Domenico, a young man she knew from Sannicandro. As a 16-year-old, Domenico would peddle his bicycle to Concetta’s house to visit her brother. Watching him, Concetta would ponder, ‘who’s going to marry this boy’ never imagining it would be her years later.

Concetta had many careers in Canada; a hat maker, seamstress, supervisor for a drapery manufacturer. Her proudest achievement was as a volunteer in the maternity ward at Etobicoke General Hospital.

Concetta was multi-faceted and always enjoyed keeping busy. Her motto was ‘work fast and take a rest’. She loved to garden, cook, make Italian pastries from scratch, sing in the church choir, sew dresses, go on trips and take care of her children and grandchildren. Concetta left all of us with many life lessons and words of wisdom.

Loving mother of Lucy (Mario) and Thomas (Anna).

Cherished grandmother to Adrien and Natalie Turrin and to Caterina, Victoria and Nicolas Mariani.

Concetta will be fondly remembered by many family and friends. We love you Ma and will miss you so much.

Arrangemnets through Bernardo Funeral Homes Ltd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William Osler Health Centre
