GERSTL, Sarah Baila (nee Mandelker) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sarah Baila Gerstl (nee Mandelker) on June 25, 2020, at 96 years of age.
Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Judy Perle (Edward Schnurr) and Honey Fisher (Dan Fennick).
Cherished sister and sister-in-law of Morris Mandelker (Rose), the late Percy Mandelker (Marilyn Cooper), and the late Abraham Mandelker (Pamela). Daughter of the late Rose & Samuel Mandelker.
She will be greatly missed but remembered by all her nieces and nephews and extended family.
We are extremely grateful to the caregivers who have helped Sarah with her daily living activities in the last 5 years, especially Cynthia and Hazel, who cared for her reliably, patiently, and compassionately. She hated that she needed help, having been an independent woman for so many years, but at the same time she appreciated the care they gave her.
We are indebted to Dr. Jennifer Shapiro and staff at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, and to the staff at Kensington Gardens Long-Term Care Home for the compassion and care Sarah received over the last year of her life.
Due to COVID-19, a private service will be held on June 26th.
