Thompson IreneTHOMPSON, Irene (nee Skleryk) – On June 30, 2020 in her 89th year, passed away at Meaford General Hospital.

Irene was the last remaining of 13 children born to Roman and Mary Skleryk of Selkirk, Manitoba. Survived by sister-in-law Una Skleryk and brother-in-law Denny Dunlop.

Irene was the beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Thompson (deceased 2000), loving Mother to Miles Thompson (Linda Joel-Thompson), and Dean Thompson (deceased 1971). Devoted Baba to Joel Thompson.

Beloved ‘Aunt Irene’ to many nieces and nephews.

Irene was able to live independently in her own home in Mississauga until early 2018, before moving to the Viva Retirement Home in Pickering to be closer to family. Most recently Irene had relocated to the Errinrung Retirement Home in Thornbury.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated healthcare workers who provided such wonderful care to Irene during these challenging times. Despite recent health setbacks, Irene remained positive and upbeat, demonstrating an inherent spirit and will to live.

Irene was a lifelong member of St Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church and we are comforted that her faith brought her peace. Her commitment to her family, friends and community was heartfelt and she will truly be missed by all.

As expressions of sympathy, donations made to St Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church would be appreciated.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 La Rose Avenue, Etobicoke, on Friday, July 3rd at 10:00 am with interment to follow. Due to social distancing there is limited seating. Arrangements with Newediuk funeral home.
