Moore JoanMOORE, Joan Anne - It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Joan Moore aged 96 died peacefully at Sunnybrook on January 12, 2021.

She is predeceased by her husband, Blake (2008) and survived by 2 sons, Bob (Mary) and Keith (Gail), 3 granddaughters, Sarah (Aaron), Jane (Gary) and Madeline, and 4 great grandchildren, Ari, Hannah, Rowan and Kella.

She also leaves behind dear friends and relatives including Norma, Pat, Marg and Brenda and newer companions, Marguerite and Andrea.

Joan was born on Glenview Avenue in 1924 across the road from her future husband. They were married for 60 years and were partners in every sense of the word. Joan was a key organizer of Blake’s work events, from elegant dinners in NY to char fishing in the Arctic.

She was a trendsetter in the sixties, planting an organic garden and delighting others with her flowers and her produce. Her beautifully prepared and served meals were a feast for the eyes.

She made and kept lifelong friends through figure skating (the Morning Glories), a lunch group (les Girls), and the Rotary’s Inner Wheel. Joan was not an attention seeker, but everything she did was done with care and expertise, especially hosting others around the pool. She was an elegant dresser, and shopping with her was a wonderful experience.

She lived at the Tapestry Condo in Don Mills until Monday, admiring the gardens daily, and appreciated the kindness of its staff and residents.

She delighted in her grandchildren, who talked and laughed with her often, and was thrilled to know her great grandchildren. One of them asked if she was flying to heaven to have dinner with her beloved Blake, and we assured him that she was.

We’d like to thank the wonderful staff at Sunnybrook who always provided great care and, even during this crisis, managed to take the time to update us with kindness and clarity.

Please buy yourself some tulips in her memory. Donations can be made to Sunnybrook Foundation or Toronto Botanical Gardens.

A private family farewell will be held as soon as we can gather again.
