Beloved husband to Maria Angela and loving father of Lorraine (José).
Adoring grandfather of Zachary and Sabrina.
His passion was learning and reading, and despite not being able to further his formal education, Luis decided to become a blacksmith in his home village. He was also a member of the São Sebastião philharmonic band where he played the trumpet and was active in the local theatre where he acted and played the mandolin.
He immigrated to Canada in 1954, working his way from the Maritimes to Montreal with various jobs until he learned of an opportunity to work for Alcan in Kitimat, B.C., where he moved to in 1955. At Alcan, he became a certified welder, working there for 32 years. He was such an accomplished welder that he was asked to weld the Welcome to Kitimat Snowflake sign which still stands there today.
In 1960 he married Angela whom he met on a trip back to his home town. In 1962, they welcomed their only daughter Lorraine. He retired in 1987, finally moving to Mississauga, Ontario where he travelled, tended to his garden, and took care of his grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his intelligence, gentleness, kindness, and generous nature. Luis will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, daughter, grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends he made over the years.
