Philip SamPHILIP, Samuel (Thampi) - On the morning of February 24, 2021, passed away peacefully at the Markham Stouffville Hospital.

He was the third of seven children born to Mr. P.K. Samuel and Mrs. Sosamma Samuel of the Kocuveethil family, Mavelikkara.

He was born in Kerala, and was raised and educated in Chennai, where he was a member of the Chetpat Mar Thoma Church.

He went to Madras Christian College to do his pre-University and after graduating in Printing, he pursued a career in printing in Bangalore for a short period of time and then moved to Bahrain.

S. Philip married Mariamma on November 13, 1967. He moved to Canada in 1968 and Mariamma joined him in 1969 to settle in Toronto.

He and Mariamma were blessed with the birth of Charles in 1977, followed by Alex in 1979. In 2005, they saw their son Alex joined in marriage to Elaine, and then in 2010 Charles joined in marriage to Sherry. Their first grandchild, Samuel, was born in 2009, followed by Mary and Esther in 2011 and Ruth in 2015. In 2012, S. Philip and Mariamma moved to Markham to be close to their son and grandchildren. His dear wife Mariamma entered her eternal home in 2014 and his youngest son Alex in 2018.

Samuel. Philip was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and His ministry. He was one of the founding members of the Canadian Mar Thoma Church, and was faithful and devoted in his service to this community. He held many executive positions, supported generously and worked tirelessly for the growth of the church and its members. He and his family extended help to people in need and supported new immigrants in their settlement.

For him, COVID-19 lockdown was a blessing, as he got to spend meaningful time every day with his grandchildren who were schooling from home.

He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith and generous care for others will live on among all those who knew him.
