Remembering Doreen through her daughters' eyes…

There is no struggle to remember Mom’s many virtues, among them, her unwavering love and devotion to her family and friends. These are the people in her life that she sincerely treasured, remained loyal to, and grateful for, always.

As far back as we can remember, she had committed to living her life according to her values and beliefs. Through all the trials she faced in life, she did so with courage and love and grace. Though many attempt to do the same, few truly have the strength and determination to stay the course as she did, and remain the genuinely good and decent person that we all adored and sincerely loved.

For us, and many others, she was always there to listen, and we could trust that she would keep our confidence. If asked for advice, she would respond with thoughtful wisdom, If we needed support, she was our comfort and strength.

Mom didn’t live her life in the spotlight, although she admired the talents and accomplishments of those who did (especially family), she instead lived with a quiet enduring strength and determination to do what she felt was right! She was a very independent and resourceful woman, and if something needed doing, she would find a way to get it done. She truly was our inspiration!

Mom found a deep and lasting joy in planning and working her beloved garden. From the time we were young children, there were the much anticipated yearly visits to the nurseries. She loved wandering the isles of flowers and plants and putting together colour combinations to adorn her sprawling perennial gardens. Over the years she has shared cuttings with us all that now flourish in our gardens as well. In fact, even in her last days with us, the few times she was able to smile, was after gazing at current photos of her beautiful garden.

We admired her for so many reasons, and treasured her love, affection and wisdom.

Our struggle will be to let her go. We will miss her deeply, but will always remember and continue to learn from Mom’s example.

It is our hope that with some of our thoughts and memories, it will help all who knew and loved her, to say goodbye, and to remember her with love.
