Thompsom EarlTHOMPSON, Earl Max - Passed away peacefully (much to everyone’s surprise) at the age of 86 following a stroke on September 13, 2021.

Earl was the much-loved son of William Thomas Standish Thompson and Jennie Hamilton (both deceased).

Husband of Diane Lorraine Butters (deceased).

Father of Peter and Kristi Thompson and Kristi’s husband Daniel Edelstein.

Brother of Jessie Thompson, Evelyn Carey, Bessie Carey, Marjorie Thompson, Ron Thompson, Glenn Thompson and Ross Thompson, all of whom predeceased him.

He is survived by his twin sister Shirley Engel, and sister-and brother-in-law Pat and Roy Burmister.

His surviving nieces and nephews are Carolyn Gray (Dennis), Cindy Stonehouse (Tony), Tim Thompson (Janice), William “Bill” Thompson (Michelle), and Jennifer Engel Baker (Gary); and Wendy Burmister Downey (Michael Warren Cavanagh) and Alan Burmister.

Melanie McLaughlin Williams (Nicholas) and Madison McLaughlin are honorary grandchildren. He had friends without number.

This is the comfort of friends,
that though they may be said to die,
yet their friendship and society are,
in the best sense, ever present, because immortal.
William Penn, Some Fruits of Solitude

Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The service will take place in the chapel on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Earl’s name to the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation (https://www.mghf.ca), the Canadian Council for Refugees (https://ccrweb.ca/en/), or the charity of your choice.

Please honour him by raising a glass with the beverage of your choice.
