Martin JamesMARTIN, James - It is with profound sadness that the family of James Martin announces his passing on September 25, 2021 at the age of 81

James was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 14, 1940. Son of the Late Thomas and Bridget Martin, loving husband to the Late Maria Martin whom he missed dearly. Beloved and cherished father to his daughter, Caroline (Aldo) and his sons Paul and Stephen. Adored Grandfather of Evelyn, Michael, Leah and Tristan.

From Scotland, James first arrived in the United States before traveling to Toronto, Canada where he could be with extended family and where he met his wife to be, Maria Louise McGraa, who had also immigrated from Scotland.

James was blessed with the comfort and friendship of his own family and that of Maria's family where he found the valued friendship of her 3 brothers.

In his earlier life in Toronto, he worked for BELL Canada and as he and his wife began their family, he joined UA Local 46 where he enjoyed much camaraderie throughout the years.

He played soccer in his youth and continued playing in Toronto with various leagues until the more gentle game of golf became the pastime for James and many of his soccer friends. At dances and parties, James was in his element. A joker and a comedian, he was a favourite of all the Grannies, Mums, Aunties and Nieces to dance with. He could always be counted on to brighten up a get-together.

He did not get to enjoy his retirement with his beloved Maria as she passed away too soon but he found her so often in the faces and comfort of their children. However, he did spend most of his retirement enjoying his rose garden, walking through his much loved neighbourhood of Guildwood, having coffee over a crossword puzzle with good friends and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

There’s so much more about him that not even words can describe.

Arrangements are entrusted with Giffen-Mack funeral home, Scarborough chapel. A visual identification for James will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society; and Alzheimer Society or to a charity of your choice.
