Mussellam VeltaMUSSELLAM, Velta Biruta (nee SAULESLEJA)  -

March 31, 1952 - December 12, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Velta Mussellam (nee Saulesleja).

She will be missed by her husband, Bruce; her daughter, Katie; and her Vancouver family: Nancy Jean, Alysha and Natalie.

Velta was the remarkable product of immigrants from Latvia.

Born in Sherbrooke, raised in Toronto, and graduated from Cedarbrae Collegiate.

Her career as a Law Clerk in land and urban planning took her to Goodman & Carr, where she helped build the Municipal Law section; then later to Bramalea; and finally to self-employment and raising Katie.

Velta had a captivating personality; warm and witty she could always find a reason to laugh at life. She loved to entertain and prepare lavish meals for those she cared for.

Nobody could ask for a better friend. In 2017, she was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer and still managed to enjoy a good life until this year.

Immediate arrangements will be private but a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

Please consider a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation.
