Doherty AlbertDOHERTY, Albert James (Jim)  - August 12, 1937 - January 30, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Doherty announces his passing on January 30, 2018 at the age of 80 at Scarborough General Hospital.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Shirley of 60 years, his sons Jim (Wanda) and Mike (Erika); daughter Carol (John); his grandchildren Shannon and James; and his dear brother William.

Born in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, Jim was predeceased by his parents Jean and Ernest; brothers Roy and Ernest; sister Jean; brothers-in-law Jim, Joseph, John, Ken and Milt; and sisters-in-law Barbara, Joan and Irene. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Edna, Jean, Mary, Kathleen, and Pat (Orval); brothers-in-law Mike (Janet), Jerry (Rita), James and Ron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim will be sadly missed by his wonderful friends Denis, Cam, Jonathan and Mort.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Boutros of the Palliative Care Unit at Scarborough General Hospital for providing compassionate care to Jim and for his support and guidance to the family.

Sensei Jim was a black belt sixth degree in Judo, coached and mentored numerous students and for many years was actively involved in Judo Ontario. After 27 years as a Supervisor for Canada Post, Jim retired in 2013.

As Jim wished, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to gather on Saturday, February 3rd between 1-4 p.m. at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E., and to attend a Funeral Mass to celebrate Jim's life on Monday, February 5th at 10 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish (3 Combermere Dr. - just off Victoria Park Ave., south of Ellesmere Rd.), followed by a reception at Edwards Gardens - Floral Hall, 777 Lawrence Ave. E.

Memorial donations, if desired, can be made to Scarborough General Hospital - Palliative Care Unit.
