KENEFICK, Sister Helen, IBVM  -  Died peacefully at Loretto Infirmary, Toronto, ON, on May 1, 2018, in her 73rd year as a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loretto Sisters).

Sister Helen was predeceased by her parents John Albert Kenefick and Charlotte Cecilia Vasey, her aunt, Sister Gabriella Vasey, IBVM, sisters Mary Bolduc, Kathleen Kenefick, Eileen Kenefick, Angela O'Neill, Loretto Shaw and Rita Kenefick.

Survived by her brother-in-law Edwin Shaw and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

From 1948-1968, Sister Helen took care of hospitality and the food service for the Community and boarding students in schools administered by the IBVM in Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, Stratford, Guelph, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie, Ontario and Loretto Infirmary in Wheaton, Illinois. Sister was also involved in catechetical programmes in many of these schools.

After training to become an RNA (1971-1972), Sister Helen worked in this field at Loretto College School from 1972 until 1983. After taking the Credo Spirituality Program at Gonzaga University, Spokane, Sister Helen was again involved in catechetic in Guelph and Pastoral Care at Grace Hospital, until moving to Loretto Abbey in 1999 where she was involved in Bible Studies.

Increased ill-health led Sister Helen to join the Infirmary Community in October 2013.

Friends may call at Loretto Infirmary, 101 Mason Blvd., on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. Prayers will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the same day.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Loretto Abbey Chapel at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, followed by interment.
