Myung-Sim Yew

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend, Myung-Sim Yew, on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Myung-Sim lived a life of resilience, grace, and boundless love.

Myung-Sim was the youngest of five siblings and graduated from Ewha Womans University before immigrating to Canada in 1971. A devoted homemaker and social worker, she raised her three children—Ted, Eric, and Abby—alongside her husband, Kwang Yew, while embracing her Christian faith and family. She took pride in preserving Korean culture, establishing a Korean language school during her time in Chatham, Ontario.

She was a skilled flutist, avid golfer, voracious reader, and world traveler who found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren: Aidan, Davis, Nicole, Emma, Beckett, and Leonie. Her resilience, overcoming health challenges like ovarian cancer and lupus, was a testament to her indomitable spirit. Myung-Sim will be remembered for her grace, humor, and "tell-it-like-it-is" approach to life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario. A funeral service will follow on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with inurnment at Oakland Cemetery.
